Ferry via GDS taps new global markets

Ferry sales via GDS connected by Pharos has only been active for a few weeks and already we can report some exciting success stories.

Less than a month live, yet agents in Qatar, Russia, India, Italy, Greece and other European countries have made reservations via the Global Distribution Systems – Amadeus, Abacus, Galileo, Sabre, Sirena and TravelSky.

These GDS networks are used by more than two million travel agents around the globe where access to ferry booking didn’t previously exist.

The organisations making bookings are also typically new to ferries, such as Opodo, OneTravel (one of the largest US online travel agencies), global business travel management companies including BCD Travel and Carlson Wagonlit Travel.

Major business travel management companies are a surprising generator of ferry reservations and an entirely new ferry revenue source.

The new GDS ferry distribution channel, while innovative, is very easy to take advantage of. It is not necessary to agree individual agency deals with the myriad new channels, geographical markets and agents. A Pharos connection and a single agreement with our partner Hahn Air is sufficient to deliver a whole new world of sales markets to ferry operators.

There is no reason to hesitate.
